School Public Relations

What is school public relations? It is the deliberate efforts of building positive relationships with your publics. For schools those publics are typically parents, community members, taxpayers, staff, and students. The short definition is simply, “do good and get credit for it.”

However, effective efforts require a strategy and goals in order to be effective. In most schools, this doesn’t happen in everyday practice. Well, public relations IS happening daily, whether you planned it or not. It is called gossip, rumors, opinions, and word-of-mouth and they are powerful public relations efforts. But, they may not be the ones your school desires. Useful public relations are the efforts you put in place to improve and positively influence those relationships with your publics.
